{"id":4182,"date":"2025-09-18T18:17:30","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T18:17:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ellok.org\/?p=4182"},"modified":"2025-09-18T18:17:30","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T18:17:30","slug":"lung-cancer-consensus-statement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ellok.org\/en\/2025\/09\/18\/lung-cancer-consensus-statement\/","title":{"rendered":"Lung Cancer Consensus Statement"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p><strong>Lung Cancer Consensus Statement <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Bridging the Gap in the Diagnosis and Management of Lung Cancer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As health professionals committed to addressing the needs of people at-risk for and living with lung cancer, we are united in ratifying Bridging the Gap in the Diagnosis and Management of Lung Cancer, the Consensus Statement first presented and ratified at the 9th International Lung Cancer Network in Athens in June 2023. It was presented at the 5th Emirates Oncology Society Conference in Dubai in October 2024 and the first IASLC Pan-Africa Conference on Lung Cancer in Accra in January 2025.<\/p>\n<p>This Consensus Statement reinforces our commitment around the five unifying principles upon which all stakeholders \u2013 health and public health professionals, Policy makers, government departments of health, finance, social services, and education, patients and patient organizations \u2013 can unite to create and strengthen policies to improve outcomes for people at-risk for and living with lung cancer worldwide.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Improve and expand prevention<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Enact all commitments within the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) in all countries worldwide.<br \/>\n\u2022 Improve awareness of primary prevention and encourage healthy behaviors including elimination of tobacco products and reduction of environmental air pollution.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Focus on early detection<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Initiate national screening programs targeting at-risk populations where not already in place.<br \/>\n\u2022 Enhance outreach to underserved, hard-to-reach, and marginalized populations.<br \/>\n\u2022 Ensure awareness of lung cancer is improved and ensure that the needs of never smokers are not overlooked.<br \/>\n\u2022 Improve exploration and understanding of unique genetic differences in lung cancer to ensure that opportunities for improved screening and early detection are equitably available, appropriately targeted and used to improve detection and prognosis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Ensure equitable and sustainable access to treatment<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Improve collaboration between stakeholders to ensure timely and financially sustainable access and availability of treatments.<br \/>\n\u2022 Reduce time between market authorization and access to therapies.<br \/>\n\u2022 Ensure lung cancer clinical guidelines are adopted and regularly updated to reflect the latest in care.<br \/>\n\u2022 Improve ease with which people can navigate their health systems.<br \/>\n\u2022 Integrate technological innovations to support needs of people living with cancer and health professionals.<br \/>\n\u2022 Promote digital literacy skills.<br \/>\n\u2022 Strengthen digital infrastructure to safeguard equitable access in the most remote areas at costs that are not prohibitive for either individuals or health systems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Build partnerships and promote investment<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Build alliances to improve awareness, access, and action to ensure lung cancer is prioritized.<br \/>\n\u2022 Strengthen health system resilience to ensure screening, early detection, and treatments are available in an equitable, timely, and financially sustainable way.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.
