RESEARCH
ELLOK has signed cooperation agreements with the major Greek research institutes, namely:
-
“Alexander Fleming” Biomedical Sciences Research Centre (“Alexander Fleming” BSRC),
-
Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA),
-
Foundation for Research and Technology (FORTH),
-
Institute of Applied Biosciences at the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (INAB – CERTH).
Besides collaboration with the research institutes, ELLOK seeks also collaboration with other stakeholders in cancer research, science, law, bioethics and technology. In this framework, we have a collaboration with the Hellenic BioCluster (HBio) network, the first biosciences’ cluster in Greece bringing together innovation leaders in the sectors of Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology, Diagnostics, Medical Devices and Specialised Services. As member of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Bioethics Academy, the President of ELLOK brings into the organization the latest scientific developments on key aspects of bioethics. ELLOK participates as partner in EU-funded cancer research projects, in close collaboration with the academic and research community (ΕRAperMED and COST projects), and it has also participated in 2020 in three Ηorizon2020 and in two Horizon Europe project proposals in 2021.
The use of digital technology in cancer is of key interest to ELLOK, since it is required from the time of screening till end of treatment with particular emphasis on mobile digital technology in cancer supportive care. The success among cancer patients, clinicians, and nurses of the clinical trial of the EU funded FP7 project eSMART1, offering cancer supportive care with the use of mobile digital technology to cancer patients in chemotherapy, that run in three Greek cancer hospitals from 2013 to 2019, shows the path for digital technology services in cancer care.
