About HPV
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is responsible for approximately 4.5% of all cancers worldwide. In Europe, the percentage of cancers attributed to HPV stands at 0.9% for men and 4.4% for women. While cervical cancer is the most common type, HPV is also a primary cause of cancers of the vagina, vulva, anus, penis, and head and neck (oropharyngeal cancer).
ELLOK supports the universal implementation of HPV vaccination across Greece to ensure the protection of the entire population.
HPV in Greece
HPV remains a significant public health challenge in our country. Data presented at the 10th ELLOK Annual Conference highlight the existing disease burden and the urgent need to accelerate vaccination and prevention strategies. Through its active HPV Working Group, ELLOK systematically monitors relevant indicators to guide national prevention and vaccination strategies.
Fighting HPV, Protecting Lives – The National Cancer Mission in Practice
As the Greek National Hub for the Mission on Cancer, ELLOK leads coordinated initiatives to prevent HPV-related cancers through awareness, vaccination, and early diagnosis. Our work is fully aligned with the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, ensuring that national action keeps pace with European priorities and remains rooted in evidence-based data.

Μία Περιφέρεια. Ένας Στόχος: Η εξάλειψη των καρκίνων που σχετίζονται με τον HPV στη Νοτιοανατολική Ευρώπη
Καθώς η ΕΛΛΟΚ υποστηρίζει σθεναρά την πρωτοβουλία αυτή, τόσο ως έννοια όσο και ως φυσική συνέχεια της Διακήρυξης για τη Νοτιοανατολική Ευρώπη, την οποία προσυπέγραψε το περασμένο φθινόπωρο, θα θέλαμε να μοιραστούμε μαζί σας ότι η εν λόγω περιφερειακή εκδήλωση τελεί υπό την επίσημη υποστήριξή της, με την ΕΛΛΟΚ να συμμετέχει ως επίσημος υποστηρικτής (formal endorser).
Η εκδήλωση, που διοργανώνεται από τον ECO σε συνεργασία με την European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) και τη Romanian Football Federation (FRF), θα φέρει κοντά φορείς χάραξης πολιτικής, κλινικούς ιατρούς, εκπροσώπους ασθενών και ειδικούς δημόσιας υγείας, με στόχο την αποτίμηση των προγραμμάτων εμβολιασμού κατά του HPV και προσυμπτωματικού ελέγχου για τον καρκίνο του τραχήλου της μήτρας στη Νοτιοανατολική Ευρώπη.
Στο πλαίσιο της εκδήλωσης, η επικεφαλής της Ομάδας Εργασίας για τον HPV της ΕΛΛΟΚ έχει προσκληθεί να παρουσιάσει την κατάσταση στην Ελλάδα, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των επιδόσεων στον προσυμπτωματικό έλεγχο και την πρόληψη, των εθνικών προσπαθειών, καθώς και του έργου της ΕΛΛΟΚ στον τομέα αυτό.
Μέσα από τη διασύνδεση φωνών από διαφορετικές χώρες της περιοχής, η εκδήλωση αυτή μπορεί να ενισχύσει τη συνεργασία και να επιταχύνει την πρόοδο προς την εξάλειψη των καρκίνων που προκαλούνται από τον ιό των ανθρωπίνων θηλωμάτων.
